Travel Diary: Chicago
I honestly love to travel and experience new cities but with such a busy life it doesn't happen often enough. A few months ago, my friends and I decided to plan our first road trip as a group, to none other than the windy city; Chicago. We all have a love for architecture and design, not to mention food, so it was the perfect place for us to visit.
We spent our long weekend driving the roughly 9 hours, with more than a few food stops along the way down to Chicago. We stayed at the best hostel, Holiday Jones, in Wicker Park - which I definitely recommend, such a great space to stay with reliable wifi and breakfast as well as the neighbourhood was ideal; full of lots of things to do.
We of course had to visit the Bean and get the most perfect staggered seflie and then we ventured to Chicago's First Lady architecture boat tour. Learning more of the history behind each building in Chicago was amazing and so inspiring so understand how the city has grown over the years. We were also lucky enough to see the bridges open up to let through sailboats. Aside from the amazing architecture, Chicago has some of the greatest museums and galleries. I visited The Art Institute of Chicago which was so amazing. It brought back so many memories of studying art history in university and was unbelievable to see some of the works I studied up close.
Then of course, the food, we basically ate our way through Chicago. With amazing tacos from Big Star, brunch at Feast and donuts from Stans - they even had gluten free ones for me! During the day we rented bikes and toured the city - it's extremely bike friendly with bike lanes and bike paths all over, definitely a great way to see the city. We also squeezed in an improv show at The iO Theatre where Drake and being Canadian was of course joked about. The comedians were so talented and one of my favourite duos was PREACH, a blend of spoken word and comedy.
Overall my weekend in Chicago with four of my closest friends was by far one I'll never forget. I definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a nice weekend away!
